Ew. The weather in the Northwest is positively gross right now. But that doesn’t seem to be stopping any of us from getting out to see the music we love, now does it? (Here’s looking at you, you badass Hootenanny people!) Well, this week is shaping up to be (another) good one, except I can’t seem to find a single damn show for Friday. If you know of one, shoot us a comment, and we’ll add it to the site!
Tuesday, May 28 — For some really great bluegrass and a really fun dance party, hit up The Student Loan at the Laurelthirst. If you’re craving some wings, word on the street is that Brad Parsons will be your nom-nom’s musical entertainment over at Fire on the Mountain on Burnside. And if Cake is your thing (I know, I know, some of you are die-hard, and the other half of you are like, whhat?), they’re at the Doug Fir tonight for the first night of a super-exclusive two-night run. Good luck getting in the door, though!
Wednesday, May 29 — It’s Shafty’s last show of their residency at the Goodfoot! This band seems to have only gotten better and better during their Wednesday night shows, so come out and catch them one last time before you have to wait for, you know, actual Phish. Again, for you Cake people, go ahead and try to con your way into the Doug Fir for night two!
Thursday, May 30 — Local music phenom Asher Fulero just released a great new album, and he’s celebrating with a CD release party at the Doug Fir! The night will start out with a piano set from Asher, and then quickly turn into a raging dance party with Melting Pot and (Fulero’s electro-alter-ego) Halo Refuser complete with a Lights Up Loud light show and belly dancers from Bridgetown Revue! Over at the Goodfoot, Scott Pemberton will be wrapping up his Thursday night residency, so if you want to catch him before festival season, now’s your chance. Since it’s also the last Thursday of the month, you can head on up to Alberta Street to catch lots of great performers, including Dark Matter Transfer. When it gets dark, the Grateful Buds are doin’ their GD thing at Biddy McGraw’s.
Friday, May 31 — As I said, I have no idea what’s going on this Friday. It’s a really strange feeling, I assure you.
Saturday, June 1 — How is June here already??? Wasn’t it just New Year’s? Celebrate the coming of the warmer months with the Dead Winter Carpenters at the Goodfoot (and we DO emphasize the celebrate part here… Dead Winter Carpenters are SO much fun). They’ll be backed up by the Brad Parsons Band. At the Pub at the End of the Universe, catch local bands The Real, Cody’s Wheel and Mugspoon. And at the Laurelthirst, we’ve got Blue Lotus and Dark Matter Transfer.
Sunday, June 2 — More chicken wings? Oh, ok, you don’t have to twist my arm. I believe Mr. Kellen Asebroek is playing some music tonight (this is according to JamBase, so Kellen, you are welcome to refute this rumor as untrue if necessary)… It’s so great to have all our Fruition band members back in town, isn’t it?
